Meet Jiraiya, one of Konoha’s three legendary Sannin and Naruto Uzumaki’s mentor, with this POP! Animation No. 2565 figure produced by Funko. This version eschews spectacular ninja techniques to highlight another iconic facet of the character: his work as a writer. Funko depicts him with a book resting on his lap, as he writes in it. The figure stands approximately 11.7 cm tall.
The design captures Jiraiya’s instantly recognisable appearance from *Naruto Shippuden*, with his long, spiky white hair, his headband bearing the kanji for ‘oil’, the red markings extending beneath his eyes, and his traditional outfit dominated by red, green and grey. His seated posture and the open book create a deliberately calmer portrayal of the famous Toad Hermit, contrasting with the many figurines that show him in the midst of battle.
This depiction makes a direct reference to his role as an author. When he meets Naruto, Jiraiya explains, amongst other things, that he frequents the hot springs to find inspiration for his novels. The official Naruto website also notes that his espionage activities and research for his books take place alongside his shinobi missions.
